The Dreamhack 2008 Winter World GameMaster tournament kicks off this Friday with sixteen teams playing for all the glory.

The DreamHack WGT event, taking place in Jönköping, will begin with a group stage, with the winner and the runner-up of each group progressing to the single-elimination phase.

The current Winter WGT holder, Meet Your Makers, flies to Sweden with a daunting task, having recently undergone roster changes in the team. This even will mark the LAN debut of Filip "pionas" Pionka, who has been brought in to fill the shoes of Jakub kuben" Gurczyński.

mTw, who finished in 3rd-4th place in the summer tournament, is highly-favoured to lift the trophy this time now as it comes off of first-place finishes at the World eSports Masters and the World Cyber Games. The Danish team is aiming for the first place only and will have a very good chance to end the year as the number one team in the world.

This event will be of extreme importance to Made in Brazil following Paulo Velloso's open letter in which he stated that roster changes will happen should the team fail to win in Sweden. Made in Brazil experienced success at Extreme Masters Philadelphia but will have to raise its game to emerge as victor here.

Mousesports have been in impressive form of late and is one of the big favourites to clinch the gold here. The German team has been placed in Group D, where it will have to come up against the likes of Made in Brazil and K1ck eSports Club.

SK Gaming placed second at WCG this year but comes into this event on the back of a shocking 16-2 defeat to AndThenSome for EPS Scandinavia. SK is expected to cruise to the knockout stages after watching GamePlay cancel its participation in the event.

Fnatic has been far from its best for some time now and this will be its last opportunity to save a year that has been nothing short of disappointing. Fnatic is hungy for results will require improved performances to finish on top of Group C, which also features Giants. The ex-lanklan squad has been riding high on form lately and comes to WGT boosted by the fact that it has finally found an organisation to represent.

Dreamhack 2008 Winter WGT Final Standings:
1. Sweden SK Gaming - 9,800€
2. Denmark mTw - 5,800€
3. Poland Meet Your Makers - 2,450€

Sk is again leading
